I changed the power steering fluid out of my mother's 95 ford Aerostar (ugh!) because it looks like chocolate milk and smells like the LaBrea tar pits. When a drop fell from the dipstick onto the other fluid, it sat there for about 10 seconds, then coalesced with the other fluid. This made me think it was contaminated with some fluid that's not oil soluble (like water).
Does anyone know what would change the color like that?
I had plain power steering in the car, not ATF, any ideas? It does have a pretty hefty leak, needing a top up every week. This new fluid has stop-leak in it.
