D24T Turbodiesel with EGR 700

Hi all:

Do any of you Diesel Guys run a functional EGR system in your Turbodiesel? I just rebuilt a 1985 D24T with EGR installed. This engine was installed into my 1983 760 to replace a tired engine without EGR.

I've got all the plumbing to make the EGR system work, but wonder whether it is worth the effort. I'd like to remove the EGR valve and cap off the ports in the intake and exhaust manifolds. I'm not sure if the IP is calibrated for EGR and I am reluctant to do this if it will cause a problem.

Another thing that is perplexing me. The supplimental data, in the green book states that 1984 calif. and 1985-86 with EGR are to be timind at .75mm. I tried this and the engine runs like crap. I advanced it to .88mm, specified for the 1983 and it runs great. Is this a typo in the green book? I've found a few in there. What timing do you guys use?

Thanks
Warren
