I have been hearing a Clunk from the right front side of the car, every time I hit a bump. It has been getting louder and can be heard now when we put the car in gear and move.
About a week ago, we pulled the rt front wheel and pushed and pulled could not get it to do it!. The tie rod ends and ball joints were replaced at the time we replaced the struts,as well as the top strut bearings.
Friday, we could get it to clunk just by pushing up and down on the fender. (bouncing the car) We noticed that the top of the strut shaft and associated hardware was moving up and down as we bounced the car. (Moving up and down in the strut tower.)
I'm thinking that the only way the top of the strut can come up in this setting is if the gland nut has come loose in the top of ther strut housing. What do you all think?
If we go to pull the strut again. we are likely to need another lowe ball joint as the remover tool tears up the boot on the joint. (Any thoughts on an alternative method of removal rather than the fork?)
We are wondering if we can get the top boot on the strut up high enough with the
strut still installed, to look at the gland nut and maybe sneak the IPD gland nut tool in there to tighten it up.
TIA for any input.
