444 B16 Cylinder/Piston Designations 444-544 1958

Hello all. I took the cylinder head off the B16 the other day since I had a broken stud. I will be taking it to the shop on Friday to get that fixed.

In the meantime, I cleaned up the cylinders/piston tops tonight, which just had a bit of run-in carbon. I'm no expert here, but a few things I noticed: pistons 1 and 4 had some slight damage marks from where they apparantly hit the spark plugs - nothing major but you can see the marks. Also, I see the "E" and "F" markings on the engine block top and I see the "E" and "F" marks on the piston tops with the arrows, but these letters are not lining up; they're 45 deg. off. Is this correct? It seems to make more sense if they lined up, but I can't imagine how the pistons could physically be turned only 45 deg. to make the letters line up.

I'm going to go dig into the service manual as well to try and find some info there. I'll let you know if I find something.

Thanks,
