Use of 'methylated spirits' for brake line flush 1800 1970

I'm working on getting my (newly purchased) '70 P1800E back on the road after a lengthy "vehicular hibernation". I've found the brake system to contain brake crud instead of brake fluid and am about to proceed with replacing Master cylinder, caliper rebuilds, rubber line replacement with SS, and flush (not particularly in this order!). The Volvo manual references "methylated spirits" as recommended flush liquid. I'm thinking they may be referring to "Mineral spirits" but not sure. Can anyone tell me what this is and/or recommend another fluid.
