I tried to troubleshoot a bit on my 5 speed 244 DL which will not shift into overdrive. Some of the things I did:
First, I removed the gear shift knob, then the OD switch that mounts in the knob. I then plugged the switch back into the lead/wires making sure there was a good contact. Turned the igition on, put the shfter into 4th gear, pushed the OD button but no light. Pull the shifter further back and to the right still nothing.
Checked and rotated the #11 fuse, still no light
Got under the car, cleaned off the terminals (which were all greased up) that come out of the shifter tube and plug into the back of a barrell shaped component (solenoid?). My wife turned the igition on, engaged 4th, hit the OD button, no light and no clicking noise.
1. Is the lock out switch the component that is on top of the tranny and not visible? It must be a bear to remove. The last time it was changed, the mechanic did it without removing anything but said it was difficult. Can it be removed by a novice using ramps or are special tools needed?
2. Is the solenoid the component on the back of the clutch/tranny that is in plain view and easy to access?
2. What is the component that plugs into the side of the tranny and has a braided metal housing coming from the engine area (oil line?).
Thanks in advance for any more info you can give me!
