New AC compressor and change to 134 = 1600? 200

Is this the going price? It broke out as 800 to fix and another 800 to change over. All this cause the old compressor seized up. Geesh! Any thoughts or places I can go to - do used compressors or aftermarket units work - is it that much to change over?
