Any tips or tools for replacing HEATER CORE? 140-160

Good morning board.

My weekend project is to replace the heater core and heat control valve on my '74 164e. Anyone have any special tips or tools that they know about that makes this job easier? I have removed the seats and carpet and cleaning that mess up right now and will start taking the dash apart and clean everything thoroughly since it will be broken down. I have decided to convert the front windows to power windows too.

One more thing, does the operation of the heater core and heat control valve relate directly to the operation of the AC? It is starting to heat up here in Tucson so my next project after this to service the AC. Any recommendations on that? Are people still using freon or converting it to the new stuff? How much hassle is it to switch over?

Thanks as always
