Hi! I'm currently driving an '85 740 sedan with about 180K. I love the car, but nothing (including the ever important AC---I'm in the South) is working accessory wise. I'd like to buy something used with working components (what a concept), but am having trouble deciding between the 240 and 740 models. I know the engines are the same (right?), but is it true that 240s are more reliable, overall? Are there any 240 years that should be avoided? Also, if service records are not available, is there an easy way to tell (other than driveability), whether the air mass meter is on its way out? Would you consider a complete service history more important than mileage? Thanks for your help!
