Hello, I bought a high amp alternator long time ago and am just now blowing the dust off of it and wanting to put it in my 1984 242 Turbo. It is going to be placed on the driver side with a 740 series alternator bracket since I don't have power steering or ac components anymore. I looked up wiring diagrams and came up pretty successful and just wanted to confirm the wiring. You can see the diagram here: http://www.jacqui-of-all-trades.com/shane/volvo/242ti/alternator/alt_diagram.jpg
This is how I think the wiring will go; Run a wire from ignition coil #15 terminal to the 'IG Terminal' on the alternator so it turns the regulator on when the coil is showing 12 volts. Then run the smaller red wire (dash dummy light) to the 'L Terminal' so it grounds the light and charges the alternator. The one I am not sure about is the 'S terminal' for sensing battery voltage. I know it is used for seeing what the battery voltage is so the regulator can adjust up or down as necessary but did you even run a wire to it?
Thanks.
