Darn it, it isn't the AMM! So now what? 700

Re: my 1991 745t, from the post about whether it could be the ECU. I disconnected the AMM this morning on a lark, and the car started up. It ran very, very poorly, in fact it only ran for a few seconds before dying. Then it started up again, same thing. But this was an improvement, with the AMM connected it would not start at all.

So ordered an AMM. In the meanwhile, I tried to start it again with the AMM disconnected, but now it would not start at all. Still smelled gas, so pulled the #1 spark plug and it was soaked with gas.

After receiving the new AMM, I tried it and the car would not start, and it again flooded so badly that the plugs were soaked with gas after only a few attempts at starting.

FWIW, I have checked the timing belt and it appears to be okay, the ignition system is working properly - delivering one hell of a spark all the way to the plugs, checked the fuel pressure regulator, and swapped out the noise supression relay.

Any ideas, or should I just go for a working, used ECU this time?
