It seems my only recourse to replace my 445 taillight lenses is to make them. These are the early small, oval lenses and seem to be universally unavailable. I do have one good lens that I just picked up at the IPD swap meet. I'm thinking about making a silicon mold and trying to make a couple replacements but don't know what my chances for success might be.
Can this really be done with good results or would I end up with a rough, bubbly mess?
What kind of resin should I be thinking about using? The local TAP Plastics suggested some sort of polyesther surfboard resin because it's somewhat UV resistant but it has a pretty low deformation temperature. Some of the broken remnants I have show obvious damage from overheating.
If any of you folks could give me some advice or point me in the right direction, I sure would appreciate it.
