965 Sporadic trans oil leak 900 1997

Hello All! I sure hope someone can give me some insight as to a leak from the transmission of my 965. I can go hundreds of miles between events, so I do not believe it is a bad seal but rather an overpressurization event of some kind, if that is possible. Once it begins to leak, it leaves a trail on the road and oil spray begins to coat the rear glass. This car has 112k and all service records and has been well maintained. It had a new torque conv installed at 100k. The local Volvo specialist has added dye to the tranny to try to attempt to determine location of leak. My concern is that it is not a bad seal but an internal problem. Any insight or recommendation anyone can give is greatly appreciated. THanks much. John in North Carolina.
