stalled while crusing 200

Have you seen the movie "The gods must be crazy", remember the scene with the "antichrist" - (name of their land cruiser) being towed in the desert?

Anyway my 1988 245 has recently had recurring problems of no-start. Today it died on the highway going about 70 mph up a slight grade. I have an almost full gas tank.

I know it is either fuel or ignition. Yesterday I went through all of the Bently checks for the ECU for the LH 2.2 (I don't know the page number off hand but you disconnect the ECU connector under glove box and probe looking for batt voltage or a particular resistance value at various terminals)

Everything checked out OK. Except the micro AC switch (which I cannot imagine causing a no start or killing a running engine)

Had the car towed home by my boss (a very nice guy I might add), checked the timing belt - still intact and it does move when cranking.

About the stall - lost all power, tried down shifting as I made my way over to the right sholder, no power at all. Electrical components work, flashers, radio etc.

When doing the checks yesterday I could hear noise at both fuel pumps, I will go & check current draw now.

What else should I check? After I did all of the checks yesterday, it would not start for about 5 minutes, I finally reseated the ECU connector a couple of times then it started.

Also I do have a spare fuel pump relay, and I did try both to no avail.

I'm at a loss as to what else, the cap & rotor are not new, but they would not make the car stall would they? They look worn & will be replaced. Plugs are probably a year to 18 months old.

Anything else?

Thanks

Mike
