I am looking at some 960 wagons. One is a 1994 with 121,000 and a 1997 with 100,000. Any preferences out there? Both are on good shape and I'll have my mechanic run a Volvo check on any buy I make. I'm recovering from being "t-boned" in the driver side door a couple of weeks ago. My great friend a 1994 940 wagon was totaled. The rescue crew that cut me out credited the 940 for my being around to heal (fractured pelvis and sore shoulder& ribs). My ten year old son (shaken but fine)who was in center of rear seat and is now even more aware of the Volvo's protection qualities am I. The 940 ran great and was still purring along with 182,000 miles on it. Liked that engine, popped the 2nd timing belt at 120,000 and suffered no consequences. I was feeling that the 940 was losing some steam and get up and go. Merging with highway traffic and long hills were slow processes. So, thinking I was of the 960. I have researched forums and am a little hesitant. Have looked for 940,740 and some 240s as well. Like the 6 cylinder and power I'm reading about in the 960. Unclear about which years the aluminum engine became less porous and which years the 960 electrical sysytem was troublesome. I had leaned to the 94-960 thinking it might be less complicated tahn the newer and more refined than it's predecessors. I've heard that after '94 the motor changed and if a timing belt breaks on a '95 or younger 940 or 960 my motor would be blown. The '97 has side air bags. Anyway, any thoughts appreciated.
