Diode for the 5280 Volvo fault tracer

Can anyone help me determine the correct diode to use in making this fault tester?

My local Radio Shack had a small assortment of diodes, none which could handle .25W (as far as I could tell).

Most of the diodes were just marked with voltage or amperage ratings. The 2 that were marked for power could only withstand 60mW and 100mW.

It has been way too long since I studied any circuit design stuff.
