Kind of unrelated to VOLVO, but I'm currently driving a '84 Honda Prelude w/ 42,000 mi. The car sat for 2 years without running and I'm trying to bring it back to life without pulling the carbs to clean them.
The carbs are variable venturi Keihin sidedrafts and quite similar to SUs, but ugh, getting them off is a pain. Cleaned the topside but I suspect the main jets have traces of varnish. I was going to run some carb cleaner through the tank, cross my fingers, and hope that the bottom end cleans up.
The car idles and runs fine with normal driving. Floor it and it just doesn't have umph!
I used a can of Techtron which VOLVO used to recommend, but is there something else that may be stronger.
Overall not a car that I would prefer, but it is kind of like driving a time capsule that gets mid 30's mpg even when not running properly.
