Poor throttle response 900 1994

I have a 94 960 with 117,000 miles. Some times when I push the accelerator nothing or almost nothing happnes unless I really put my foot in it hard then it goes.
When this is happening I can gently put the accelerator to the floor and nothing happnes. Why?
