Speedometer cable plastic connector broke. Do I need a new one? 200 1983

Hi fellas. So far I am batting a thousand with this board.
My '83 rebuild 245GL required me taking the dash off to repair some melted wiring. In doing so I had to disconnect the speedo cable and the plastic connector that hold the cable to the back of the instrument speedometer actually broke apart. Is that an anti-tamper thing? Does this require a new cable?
