8" round H4s, how much heat? 200 1977

Hello everyone, I'm back with another question in my search for more light on the front of the 245

I have the old style single round H4s on my car (not sealed beams as I think some American cars got stuck with) and I'm currently trying to get as much light on the road as I can.

I'm putting two 100W hella driving lights on the front as soon as they arrive, and it would be nice to get as much out of the regular headlights as well. I asked at the parts shop about the possiblity of upgrading them to higher wattage globes. (eg 100/130W)

"I used to do it" the guy replied "but at the time I was buying headlight reflectors in bulk from the dealer, you burn them out every 6-12 months"

The consensus seems to be that I'd need to upgrade the wiring and relay (doesn't bother me, I'm using 3 phase cable to power my indicators already) install a seperate relay for the lowbeams to take the load off the headlight switch and even then I'd be burning out the reflectors pretty quickly.

He suggested I try the supposedly 50% brighter Narva blues (some xenon added) which I did and they made a big difference. I can see futher, and everything has a very clear ghostly look on a dark road. Cleaning the layer of insects off the lenses helped as well.

It occured to me that most drivers are using plastic backed headlights, not old style glass, so perhaps mine would take a bit more cooking. How much heat can you subject an old 8" Bosch headlight to? Anyone tried it?
