Start & running issues (long) 200 1987

Got a couple of issues, and I am hoping folks might have some tips or ideas, especially if explained in total... I think the problems are related, and if it's not one item causing them, it will be a related combo..
1) Sometimes, usually in the mornings, the car just won't go. It will start, but the second you push on the gas, it dies. Sometimes it just sputters and dies, but usually it'll start. If you don't put any gas to it - to kill it - it will generally sputter and die within a minute. Not a lot of sputter, just won't run... Give it some time after one of these episodes - 15 ~ 20 minutes, and it will start right up. This usually happens in the morning, but it has also done it after driving for a while/warming up.
2) It was lugging under highway speeds, seeming to starve for power, occasionally. Generally when you were riding at a consistent RPM
3) It was also surging/revving occasionally under low or varying RPM - like when coming to a stop or cruising a parking lot. Will also continue to do it in park or neutral.
4) The in-tank fuel pump seems to be buzzing louder than normal.
I have not noticed 2 & 3 much lately (last couple of weeks) , but item 1 has been happening w/ more frequency. Item (1) does not seem to be affected by temperature. One day, while it was surging, I twisted the idle adjustment knob - Moved it up, moved it down - readjusted. The surging and lugging seemed to subside, But I only drove it for about a week before the “no-go” problem started to rear its head…
Wanna attack this, but could use some notions on where to start…. Only things done lately – replace the fuel filter and the OD Transmission relay (auto-tranny)

Thanks in advance for any comments or ideas!
