Trailer hitch wiring for the 240 200 1984

After realizing that a 240 can tow its own weight and reading some examples of 240 owners who have done just that, I searched high and low (eBay) to find an OEM hitch in decent shape. Now that it's installed and ready to pull, what do I do about the wiring to connect the 240 tail lights to a trailer? It's my understanding that Volvo made one for the 240 since I've seen them on sale at some online stores. Do they require splicing into existing wiring or do you plug it in somewhere?

I'm tempted to buy bulk wires and the universal plug and built it myself if it's worth the trouble.
