Is ATF used as Power Steering fluid ?? 700 1990

The power steering fluid in this 740 (175600 miles and purring along) was a watery grey and the kid at the local oil change place swears this is the result of a mix of power steering fluid and automatic transmission fluid in the pwer steering fluid resevoir when there should just be automatic transmission fluid in there. Is this correct ?? Any way to drain this system and put in fresh fluid ?
