Welding a Porous 960 block? Will it work? 900 1992

Hi, I recently bought a '92 960 wagon (I live in Australia) and have since found it leaks out of the side of the block (engine number 36779). I just
found your articles by Kelvin Kean and Tom Irwin describing exactly my
problem. I am getting different opinions from various mechanics here in
Australia.

One wants to TIG weld it. I am wondering if anyone has had any luck with
trying a TIG weld solution? Is the heat and stress of TIG welding likely
to end up opening up more problems if the block is already fragile? One
also suggested the use of "CarGo Metallic Seal Up" and I wondered if this
may be a better solution, or would that only be temporary?

I note Tom you suggest the use of The 15 hour JB weld epoxy stuck onto the
outside. Given your experience, is this really the best way to go?

I also noted that Kelvin was logging a formal complaint with Volvo and I
would love to know whether this amounted to anything as I have booked the
car into a Volvo authorised agent to try to see if it can be covered by
Volvo (the car has an authorised service history and I figure they should
have known about it if it was an official defect).

Thanks very much, regards Gerard Sydney Australia.
