Automatic Transmission noise 200 1987

I have a 1987 244 GL with 270K on it. When I'm driving at a constant speed on the highway I can now feel through the gas pedal a constant roughness. I'm not sure what is causing this.
Any suggestions to help troubleshoot the problem would be appreciated.
