Do I need to modify fuel tank for FI? 120-130 1967

I am currently assembling the parts to fuel inject my 122 that currently has a B20 with a FI head (ports are plugged and SUs installed). I have read many of the online accounts of adding fuel injection to 122s but they all seem to gloss over the fuel tank setup. I have an original D-jet fuel pump that came with a complete 1800 FI setup (manifold, rail, injectors etc.). I have read of one install that used a 240 pump with a surge tank, and a couple that use the original fuel pump. What is the best way to go, and if different, what is the easiest way to go? Is it necesary to add a fuel return line to the fuel tank? What are the benefits of a surge tank? I have seen universal kits to add a return line to the fuel filler neck, would this work in a 122? Any info would be greatly apprecieated. I am planning on installing a Megasquirt ECU to control everything.
