85 740 fuel pump location/ replacement 700 1985

Hello, I have a 85 740 non turbo that has been dying while driveing every once in a while. I have replaced the fuel pump relay and it still has continued. some times when it does it I can slam the door and it will crank up again. This time it will not crank. I took the fuel line loose from the fuel rail and turned it over and no fuel came out. I believe the fuel pump was intermitently going out and now it is gone. Is the the fuel pump in the fuel tank or is it next to the fuel filter under the floor board. how hard of a job is this to do?
