Alternator w/o pulley 700

Is it a bad idea to buy a reman alternator (like sold at FCP) without a pulley?
Maybe I could get mine remanufactured, It's mentioned multiple times in the FAQ.
If so, does anyone know of one in Modesto, CA?
BTW I'm fairly sure it's the alternator, but it will be load tested and I'm going to check the volt regulator first.
