240 steering overcentering? 200

I put my 84 240GLE on the road for the summer, and notice that the steering seems to "overcenter" when pulling a tight circle at slow speed, like when in a driveway or a parking lot. To check it I drove slowly and turned sharply to the left and then to the right, to its full extention, and at a point about 3/4 to a full turn lock there is a feeling like the wheels overcenter. Sorry if that is a poor description, but it is hard to put in words. What would cause something like this? I did install a set of HD sway bars last winter when in storage, and the bushings appear to be in good order. Looking at the front wheel when parked, with the steering at full right lock, it appears as though the wheel is leaning in significantly at the top.
Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks
JD
