diffuclty shifting automatic gear?Stiff and seems to fall into place loose/ 700 1990

what could be wrong?
shift knob centre button depresses okay.
few months ago, ?touched o/d switch on driver's side/or not? but arrow on dashboard sometimes comes on automatically.Then it stopped doing that.

Microswitch or bushings?????
Thanks for advice.Should I go to dealer on this rare circumstance or will a general mechanic be able to fix this?
