My car was overheated by previous owner 9 yrs ago or ~60K miles. Different head was put on at Volvo dealer as old was one too far gone.
Since I've had the car (for 2yrs) I've noticed the head gasket weeps oil from intake side and coolant (~1C over 2500 miles) from #1 exhaust side. This seems to be crappy gasket longevity... I'm about to embark on a 2000 mile trip and the leaking coolant has me a bit nervous. The leak hasn't increased.
Bad news is about $900 CDN to fix. I can't do the job now with wife and kids tapping their fingers asking "when are we going to go."
I'm tempted to take the bus instead.
I'm even wondering if the block was distorted during the overheating? Although it was overheated enough to melt back t-belt cover the power, oil consumption and compression are all at acceptable levels.
What are thoughts on head gasket longevity?
