Fellows....
In an 89 240 DL, the windshield is leaking and is allowing water to come in contact with the fuse panel. After a huge rainstorm the other day, the radio has stopped working and when I open the glove box, the open door buzzer comes on. If I push the driver's lock down to lock the doors, the same thing occurs and the doors do not lock. Obviously there's some sort of short in the system. I have a voltmeter and have checked the power wire at the radio. There's no power there but there is power from the ignition wire (accessory power wire) and the radio fuse is intact. I haven't had the time to check out the power wire thoroughly. The radio is an aftermarket radio and has been moved to the upper location by a previous owner so I'm not sure if the wiring is factory or has been rigged in any manner. All the fuses are intact and there is current running on both sides of every fuse. I had a voltmeter plugged into the cigarette lighter and for a few days, it was reading between 8 and 9.5 volts, while a voltmeter directly on the battery would read 13.5. Again indicating some type of short. The funny thing is that the voltmeter in the cigarette lighter is indicating 13 volts, but the radio isn't getting power and the door lock mechanism and the glove box light still activates the "open door buzzer."
Any ideas on where to look for this short? My time is limited as I work entirely way too much and driving to work without a radio is getting tiresome. Thanks for your help in advance.
