Hi everyone,
I recently took apart my intrument cluster as to try my luck at repairing the fuel gauge. I believe it may be some type of lose connection/bad solder joint as when it decideds not to work, a couple firm hits on the dash will usually get it working again.
I don't really know what I am looking for with the solder joints though. On the actaul fuel gauge itself, I see about three joints that have some brown crud around them and on the back of the flexible circuit board, everyting around the fuel gauge looks ok. Two of the three joints where I see that "brown crud" have wires going into them from what looks like might be the low fuel light.
I've included links to two pictures I've taken and it would be appreciated if someone could take a look at them and tell me if they see anything that stands out as being a possible culprit.
I didn't resize the picture to try to make it as detailed as possible. They are around 2MB each.

Thanks!
