First off, yes i have read this post:
http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=1081645&show_all=1
and the 50 other posts scattered throughout the internet yet noone seems to respond if any of the methods people recommend to fix this air conditioning problem work, and i live in phoenix and ac is something thats required! So the ac works for 10 minutes then dies...however i have been able to do trips where it doesnt (15 minute trips down the block or to wal mart), it seems to do it after i get on the high way usually, which to me (being a novice to working on cars) that something is overheating. I dont want to bring it to a shop bc i prefer to learn and do it myself (and i dont like throwing 90$ an hour to a mechanic if its something i can do myself). I rebuilt a 1988 325i completly and really enjoyed doing all of the work. Now I just bought this car and talked the guy down bc of this problem...worst case is that i just replace the whole system (since nothings been touched in all 90,000 miles it has on it) which would cost 400-600$ i think from the research i have done but i dont feel like spending that much money if its a some common problem that is just a quick fix. My father believes that i should recharge it and see what happens. however i believe that maybe its more complicated than that. Also does anyone have a factory repair manual for this car? As i am not familar with volvos at all. So in the end has anyone actually fixed this problem and would be willing to walk me through it?
Thanks
Tim
