Hi, new here to the brickboard.
I have a 1988 240DL with an auto transmission. Recently my car stopped going into overdrive when reaching speeds over 55mph on the freeway. It does occasionally, but very very rarely. And I commute to work and school on the freeway daily, so this is a pressing issue for me.
I've researched on the net about the troublesome overdrive relays, and think that this may be my problem. Today I took the O.D. relay out and checked out the soldering points on it. There are two runs on it where the solder has been burned away, but the copper underneath seems completely intact. How exactly do I check to see if this relay is working properly?
It makes a clicking sound when the O.D. button is pushed, and the orange arrow light comes on. The orange arrow light is coming on more and more frequently at random times when driving (having not pushed the button).
I basically am trying to see if its a relay or solenoid problem, without having to replace any uneeded parts. Thanks in advance for any help.
