After struggling to remove the in-tank fuel pump from my '93 940GL (Regina) for about an hour and a half, I have finally concluded that it is impossible without dropping the tank. I followed the excellent guides pointed out previously. I got all the lines and connections off, but could not get enough clearance to remove the pump assembly (even with the 90 degree CCW turn). The previous owner told me he had replaced the tank so this may account for the interference I experienced.

I couldn't find anything in the FAQs directed toward dropping the tank. It doesn't appear to be that difficult - a couple of bands and brackets on each end. Yes, I'll try to get as much fuel out before lowering it and yes, I'll make sure all hoses and such are disconnected first. Any other tips or warnings I should be aware of - or advice on reinstalling the tank once I have gained access to get the pump out? The other option is to take it to my local Volvo technician (not dealer) who quoted ~$180 labor. (Of course, he probably didn't know he would have to drop the tank.....)
