intermittant bad missing 700 1990

Twice in the last couple of weeks, this car runs like it is missing. You can barely get it home and can smell unburnt fuel. I let it sit and it ran fine the first time it did this. Last week I changed out the air mass with a known good one I keep for a spare. Today the same symptoms although I have not tried it to see if it 'fixes itself again".

Where would you fellows start?
