I lose my R12 every year on this car, and just pay my mechanic $80 to recharge it rather than fork out the cash for a new system. I never expect the car to last me the next 2 years I guess. Such faith!

My friend is licensed to get the R12 -- he needs to know how many pounds to get. What are the critical pieces of knowledge for doing the job? (Or would you just absolutely positively prohibit non-experts from doing this?)
