1978 242 gt 200

Hi,
I drive a very nice 89 740 wagon with 145,000 miles. Auto, air, and no turbo. Not exactly a hot rod but nice. As I was in the waiting room of my mechanic, i spied an ad for a 1978 242 gt. She's asking $1500 and claims that the car is all original and running well. Assuming it's a legitimate survivor, am I out of my mind in even contemplating unloading the 740 and moving into it? It will have to be a daily driver and I will have to maintain what little automotive credibility I still have with my wife (most of which was lost forever somewhere between the Le Car and the Vanagon years ago).
Any advice would be appreciated.
Chris
