1989 240 Wagon Speedometer Trouble 200 1989

The speedometer in my daughter's 240 wagon has stopped working. No speedometer or odometer. The clock, fuel and temp gauges still work fine. She insists that it just "happened" one morning. I've seem to remember hearing that a solder joint sometimes fails in the 240 speedo, but can't seem to find any references online. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
