'91 740 automatic: intermittent shudder in reverse when hot 700

Hi everyone:

My '91 744 with an AW70L automatic has a strange intermittent problem. Three or four times in the last month, it has exhibited a shuddering reaction to being put in reverse. This only seems to happen after long highway driving on hot days (85+ F ambient temparatures.) It feels like it is not going completely into reverse when this happens (?)

The transmission was overhauled at 145K miles by Aamco based on the receipts from the previous owners(car now has 160K miles.)

My Dad's indy Volvo tech checked it over and found a broken transmission mount (he replaced it and adjusted the shift linkage a bit.) He unfortunately could not replicate the symptoms while he had it. He said nothing else looked like it was a problem.

The problem returned once since I got the car back, so the mount wasn't the problem. The fluid is not burnt but is a bit overfull. Could this be caused by slightly overfilled fluid?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Andrew S.
