A/C compressor humming, no cold air, dash lights on 700 1990

1990 740 GL 4 cyl. wagon 275k original compressor
I'm going to take the belt off this afternoon, clutch only works occasionally on A/C compressor but still no cold air. Warning lights went on when A/C failed a couple of days ago. Any thoughts? Thanks.
