Possible to determine if small leak is from Rear main seal 240 ?

I have a possible purchase potential for a 1993 240 DL . I have owned an 86 240DL since new, and am thus familiar with the car. The fact that my present 240 A/C is not functional and the 93 has the 134 factory, is a strong factor.

In speaking with the present owner of the 93, he states that he has all the records of dealer maintenance on everything, and has 108 K miles.

BUT he indicates that there is a small oil leak that requires an extra quart every 3K miles. Supposedly just a dime sized spot. He says it is a lower gasket and not an upper head gasket.

If it is below the engine or coming from the lower part of the engine (rather than the head gasket) is this likely to be a Rear main seal failure ? Which would mean 10 hours of labor and large bucks to rectify.

Is there a way to determine if it is the Rear main seal ?

Thanks in advance.

PS for the life of me I cannont find or figure out what the acronym
" f.ldd " means ?
