I know, I know, it's not gonna make a difference, but my brick is running fine and I don't have anything better to do. I have averaged 26.45 MPG in my '88 240DL autobox using 87 octane over the last 1,400 miles (4 fillups). I drive 18 miles one way to work with 3 stops. Sometimes I drive the interstate at 70mph, sometimes I take the US highway at 60 mph and use the air conditioner on the way home (North Carolina is hot now).
So, I just filled up with 89 octane and will do so next time too to see if there is any justification to spending the extra 0.08 cents per gallon. 87 octane was $2.879 and 89 octane was $2.959, or 2.7% more. If I can get to 27.2 MPG I break even. Any thoughts?
