Shifter no longer unlocks when brake is depressed 900 1997

All of a sudden I now have to use the shift lock override to get my 97 960 out of Park. The shifter seems to operated fine otherwise, and I still need to push in the release on the shifter to change gears. I suspect that it has something to do with the brake sensor. Does anyone have any information on how this operates? Thanks
