TPS switch and wiring bad? 700

90 740 turbo:

I've got an issue with a low idle - My idle switch seems to do nothing. The diagnostic from the FAQ shows no response in stage 2 or 3.
The IAC works (it "tests" itself and I've manually operated it with a 9V battery) and the R and D idle increases also work, but the only air going into the car has been what's sucked past the throttle plate.
I checked for voltage across the two contacts in the TPS connector, but I had no return value.
I tried running an ohmeter across the two contacts on the switch, but I never got a positive connection (it was a very awkward connection - I should buy alligator clips).

What's the first place I should check to find my broken/burned wire? Does anyone know what contacts it should be on the ECU?
Maybe the switch is mis-aligned, but shouldn't there be 12V in KP2? Does the engine have to be running? that's something obvious (I need to get more sleep).
