Critical Mass 200 1982

Hello Y'all,

My 242 project seems to have reached a "boiling point" more or less with my better half who wants the garage space back. So I seek the advice of fellow bricksters on whether or not to continue on the road of insanity.

The Good:

- 242 GLT w/verified 121,000 (75k miles)
- smooth running, untouched B23E
- uncracked dash
- working a/c w/original York compressor
- nice seats
- doors that open and close like new

The Bad:

- whacked in the rear at some point, cheap body work
- needs steering rack
- will need brakes
- rear shocks and bushings shot
- rear diff. noisy
- F & R main seals on B23E leaking
- alternator so-so
- stupid AW33 tranny that needs to be replaced by an M46
- air pipes rusted out (which leads me)

The Ugly:

Rusty, rusty, rusty. I have replacement front fenders, wheel arches and spare tire wells for the back, but it doesn't look like that's going to be enough. I've been grafting in metal where I can.

A decent paint job has to be worth at least 2g's plus decals and trim.

So what's everyone's opinion here? Should I just cut off what I've done so far with the patch parts, scavenge the good, send this one off to Volvo heaven and pray for a nice rust free 242? Or should I continue on my path of irrationality?

Anyone want partially restored 242 GLT in Ontario with nice low km's?
