Engine swap / 240 -> 940 / Different distributors, any problem? 200

Hello,
I'm in the middle of putting a used engine in my '94 940 wagon due to piston ring failure, oil leaks, etc.

The engine I'm putting in is from a 200 series and I've made everything match up so far except for the distributor. The 940 wagon distributor was on the back of the head whereas this distributor is on the block. I was going to just move my ignition coil so that I could get spark to the distributor on the block UNTIL I noticed that the 200 series distributor is not entirely mechanical (as is the 940 distributor). It has a 3-pronged (bosch, I think) electrical connector. What does this connector do, and can it be bypassed to make an entirely mechanical distributor? I noticed that some 200 series do have entirely mechanical distributors and this one only visibly differs by this 3-pronged connector.

I am using the original computer and sensors from the 940.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Now, back to the garage.

Thanks again,
Rick
