Cold start 200 1980

My Low(?)mileage 1980 240 has a cold start issue. It chugs up to idle (with the help from my right foot), the idle flounders around for a while, but the engine will run great after it is warmed up. Anyone ever have to replace the Aux. air valve? Does it get gummed up after time? If so, can I clean it up and reinstall? Or am I going in the wrong direction. Any help greatly appreciated.
