Intermittant engine shuttering bucking and acceleration lag 900

My 1995 965 wagon with 190,000 miles will intermittantly shutter, and buck at times, and other times lag on acceleration. This will normally occur while cruising at a constant speed, usually 60 to 70 miles per hour, although it does occur at lower speeds. The car idles smoothly and has never died. By either slowing down or speeding up I can bring the car out of the shutter. The lag in acceleration can happen at about any speed. The only code present is 212, which I replaced the O2 sensor several months back, but have been unable to clear code. I checked the fuel pressure and it is 43.5 psi and I can vary it with a manual vacuum pump connected to the fuel pressure regulator. The car idling (@ 19.5 in Hg vacuum) the fuel pressure is 38 psi.

In reading the FAQ the symptons parallel those described for bad knock sensors but I am not getting any codes for knock sensors.

Any thoughts or suggestions will appreciated.

Thanks

James
